Martin Brundle talks about the legend of the Lotus 49, while we enjoy sights and sounds from the era. Next Martin takes the Lotus 49 for a spin, remarkable footage, the Cosworth sounds amazing!

For me the most amazing part is listening to Collin talk about how he was able, with he Lotus 49, to build the engine and the chassis together. A truly fantastic little video, kudos to the maker!

An inside look at the active suspension on the Lotus 99T

With Lotus getting back into Formula 1 in 2010 I think it’s a good time to take a look back at some of their more innovative cars. The 99t was the first Lotus F1 car to be equipped with an active suspension. This allows the car to maintain an exact ride height no matter what portion of the track the car is on. Active suspension was once considered the holy grail of automotive suspension technology, and no car represents it better than the 99t.

Fifth Gear takes the Exige 265E for a blast

This is the first review I’ve seen of this remarkable special one off Exige. It runs on a bio-fuel, on the 1.8 supercharged I-4, he figures it has about 270 HP. Wow, now that’s an alternative fuel vehicle that I would be willing to own as it’s the fastest “factory” road going yet! But, you better have a good source of fuel to enjoy it…hahah!

Edmunds takes the Lotus Elise SC to the track

This is the most unusual track test I’ve ever seen, it’s totally devoid of any dialog at all. But as boring as the American road tests tend to be perhaps this is a good thing. At any rate, it’s some nice footage of a beautiful Orange Elise SC!!!!

This one is a classic. Not only do we get standard Top Gear goodness, but we also get one of the best “races” they’ve ever done. The Lotus Exige v.s. an Apachee Gunship, where do they come up with this stuff. I love the way Clarkson talks about the Exige.

Senna onboard at Monaco in a Lotus 98T

Does it get better than watching Senna turning some laps at Monaco? The best racing driver the world has ever known pilots this T98 around Monaco during qualifying for the 1986 GP. There is some nice commentary about the cars of the Turbo era, they had a bit of power it seems. ONE THOUSAND FOURTEEN to be exact, wow.

Fifth Gear takes the Elise S out for a ROMP!

Now here are some women drivers you can get behind and support, well at least one of them! I love the british track tests so much, they are so fun and lively. This one is especially good since the setup is that Vicki is trying to teach her big sister how to put down some quick lap times in an Elise. It’s hilarious when you can tell Vicki is getting annoyed by her sisters driving.

Now here is some neat footage. Legendary Formula 1 driver Graham Hill taking a Lotus Elise around the Top Gear test track in a time of 1:31. I wish I knew exactly what the Elise was like that he was piloting but whatever it is, he did a damn quick time. HAHAH, super fun.

Fifth Gear pits the Lotus Elise against VX 220 Turbo

The VX220 comparisons are all over the place these days, as it’s built by Lotus and is more or less an Elise for a bit lower price. But at the end of the day a VX 220 isn’t a Lotus is it. I can’t seem to care about this car what so ever. Ibelieve it used to be the Opel Speedster, yet another Elise spinoff.

I love how you can hear how much he enjoys driving the Lotus, you can actually hear the enjoyment in his voice. I love the overlays that Fifth gear does on their comparisons, you can see where each car makes or looses time. Of course the Elise wins, it is a clever boy afterall.
